A 53 year old Bognor man who stabbed another man in the chest - jailed for nine years.

Michail Michailov, of Upper Bognor Road, Bognor Regis, was charged with grievous bodily harm after the incident in February 2022.

The court heard he had been drinking with three other people at a flat in Bersted Green Court, Bognor Regis, when for unknown reasons he attacked one of them.

The victim, a local man aged 52, suffered a 10cm chest wound. He was rushed to hospital, where it was confirmed the knife narrowly missed his heart and lungs.

Police were informed, but Michailov had already fled the scene. He was later located following enquiries and arrested.

The 53-year-old, of Upper Bognor Road, Bognor Regis, was charged with grievous bodily harm.

In police interview he answered “no comment” to all questions, but admitted the offence in court.

At Lewes Crown Court on 13 April, he was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment with an extended period of five years.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Ash O’Mahony, said: “This was a seemingly unprovoked attack on the victim, who is fortunate to have not suffered life-changing or life-threatening injuries.

“Nevertheless, there was clear intent by Michailov to harm him, and the courts have recognised this by the sentence imposed.”
