New sculpture to be unveiled in Chichester

Later this month a sculpture will be unveiled at Aldingbourne Community Sports Centre.

On Friday October 14th, from 2.00pm a new sculpture will be revealed in Chichester at the Aldingbourne Community Sports Centre.

The piece is part of an innovative public art project that has brought together young people from three local schools.

The schools involved are : Aldingbourne Primary and Barnham Primary and the local secondary Ormiston Six
Villages Academy.

With the support and guidance of acclaimed sculptor Richard Janes supported by the District and Parish Councils the design has been developed through a series of workshops over the past 6 months.

As part of the creative workshops the pupils involved got the chance to get involved in exploration of the history of sculpture and how public art
works in a place.

Richard Janes also taught them how to investigate into their parish taking in such diverse influences as local farming practices, the archaeology and geography of the village and Renaissance plague masks.

Participating students from the schools will be celebrated at the unveiling event.

The aim of the sculpture lead creative project is to put the Art into Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths by supporting students to explore their creative ideas alongside learning about materials and laser cutting their own designs.

As part of the event later this month there will be refreshments available to those who attend.

The local community as well as representatives from all the project partners are invited to attend.
