The building was used to help with missions during the war

A Sussex Grade II control tower involved in WW2 has been damaged near Chichester.

Graffiti has been found on a building near Chichester that was used as a control tower during World War Two. The vandalized building in Tangmere is also a Grade II listed building and has been in the area since 1944.

The original building was damaged in 1940 by German Raids when it was used to help with missions. Formerly known as the RAF Tangmere Watch Office, the building has much historical importance for the area.

Despite the building being closed in 1970 the 'Save Tangmere Tower' campaign was started to keep the historic building. The campaign aimed to was started with the aim of collecting funds to maintain the building as it is one of the last remaining structures from the village's RAF airbase.

In a tweet Sussex Police said the graffiti vandalism was "disappointing".

No statement has been made yet on whether the vandals have been caught or punished for the damage.
