The change comes after a developer chopped down 36 trees in Shoreham despite saying they'd be kept

Adur District Council is to crackdown on "unrealistic" CGI mock-ups of new developments which fail to show what trees and plants will remain after a development is completed.

The council will not accept proposals showing trees that "never materialise in real life" as they "bring the credibility of the planning system into dispute". The change comes after an incident in which a developer chopped down 36 trees in Shoreham, although it told the committee that they would be kept.

Planning to protect local trees as well as promote new planting, Adur District Council's have approved changes such as asking developers if the proposed planting is possible, and removing trees from artist's impressions.

Adur District Council's chairman Andy McGregor stressed the need to enforce the new rules: "When do we actually have that enforcement, where they either have to put their hand in their pocket or they have to buy some land somewhere and plant some trees or pay for some kelp?"
