Supermarkets such as Tesco, ALDI, and ASDA have confirmed their closure for the day

As we prepare Queen Elizabeth's funeral on Monday, a bank holiday has been planned to allow the country to set aside the day to pay tribute and reflect on her life.

The funeral is due to take place at 11am on the 19th of September, with the government's official mourning advice suggesting that closing for the day should be "at the discretion of individual businesses". However, many supermarkets and businesses across the country have made the decision to stay close their doors as a mark of their respect for Her Majesty.

Supermarkets

Both Chichester and Bognor Regis' Aldi and Lidl stores will be closed on Monday.

In a social media post, Aldi shared that all its stores across the UK will close "as a mark of respect" and to "allow our store colleagues to pay tribute to Her Majesty The Queen".

All M&S and Sainsbury's shops will be closed too, with the Co-Op and ASDA making the choice to stay closed until 5pm. ASDA deliveries for the day will be cancelled and those waiting on an order from the Co-Op will need to wait until 5pm for this service to resume.

Tesco's main stores will be shut entirely, however their Express options will reopen at 5'o'clock in the evening.

Retailers

Shoppers' choice of retail outlets will be limited as Argos, Poundland, Primark and Next are also to close all stores on the day of the funeral.

Speaking on their choice to close, Poundland said: "We know how important it will be that colleagues have the opportunity to pay their respects next Monday, as the country comes together to honour and celebrate the life of the Queen."

DIY store B&Q and Halfords are among those set to close, joining bookstores Waterstones and WH Smith's as well as John Lewis, who's CEO described it as "the right thing to do".

Post Offices

While Royal Mail are set to stop their services on Monday, a Post Office spokesperson has added that most of their branches will "likely" be closed, including 114 directly managed by the company itself.
