All the ways Adur & Worthing council is helping residents with the Cost of Living crisis

Adur & Worthing council has pledged to do "all it can" after discovering nearly 2,000 local households are in energy poverty

Adur & Worthing council have released a list of ways they plan to help residents with the Cost of Living crisis, promising locals that it will do "all it can" to help out.

The council have pledged to help with food and are set to provide warm shelters, as well as offering early interventions for those struggling with household debt. Local charities are also being offered £10,000 in grants to allow them to open their doors as somewhere comfortable for those who need it.

The pledges come after it was discovered that 1,910 Adur homes were in energy poverty, over 3,622 were in water poverty and 361 were in food poverty. This means that thousands of local households will have to skip out on necessities due to rising living costs.

Plans also include a donation of £25,000 to help food banks, as well as encouraging businesses to provide meals to them to help reduce waste. Financial support to help homes become more energy efficient is also in the works, including identifying homes that may be struggling early.

Communities and Wellbeing councillor Kevin Borum said: “As a Council we are aware of the large numbers of people in our community who are facing very tough times through acute cost of living price increases and we will do all we can to help mitigate and support them."

He added that the council will work "tirelessly" to support "those who need it" through what he describes as a "difficult period."
