A Bognor couple has been banned from keeping animals for 10 years after neglect led to the deaths of a horse and a pony.
Katrina Sullivan who is 42, of Laurel Grove, and 36-year-old Jamie Middleton of Felpham Road, pleaded guilty to two Animal Welfare Act offenses.
Worthing Magistrates Court heard that Sassy and Apollo were left in poor conditions in Bognor paddocks, with one suffering a maggot-infested tail wound when discovered by an RSPCA inspector last October.
Inspector Carter said in a statement presented to the court: “Sassy was wearing two rugs but despite this I was able to see that she was in a very poor bodily condition with a thin neck and protruding scapula and sunken abdominal area.
Along with the ban, Sullivan received a 12-week suspended sentence, while Middleton was handed a 14-week suspended prison sentence.
