Bognor pub owner teams up with regular to smash 10k run in fundraiser for more defibrillators

Owner of the Dog and Duck Jamie Boyle and customer Andrew Greig are taking part in multiple fundraisers after a man passed away outside the pub when he had no access to a defibrillator

A Bognor Regis pub owner has teamed up with one of his regulars to run a 10k as part of a series of fundraisers to install more defibrillators in the town.

Owner of the Dog and Duck Jamie Boyle and customer Andrew Greig took part in the Bognor Prom 10k yesterday and raised over £2000 in hopes to make a device accessible to anyone who needs it in a medical emergency. It's after a man suffered a heart attack outside the pub in March but passed away when those at the scene were unable to access a defibrillator.

The pair are hoping to install a defibrillator permanently outside the pub, which local businesses can access, and told V2 Radio they've also talked to Coastal Coffee about having a unit on their building. On Sunday, they completed the race in times of 1 hour and 1 minute and 1 hour and 18 minutes.

"Unfortunately Jamie's now pulled a tendon in his knee, so he's now on crutches," Andrew told V2 Radio.

"But we'd just like to thank everybody for their generosity and support, especially to family and friends for coming down and supporting us along the route as we completed it.

"We've managed to raise just short of £3000 and we've still got some money to come in as well, so that total will keep on growing.

"It looks like we can potentially buy three defibrillators."
