A Bognor Regis primary school have unveiled a new commemorative tree in memory of Queen Elizabeth II.

Students at Bartons Primary School planted a Magnolia tree at the end of last month - the same type that featured in Her Majesty's 96th birthday portrait. Affectionately naming the plant Elizabeth, children at the school were joined by councillor Keir Greenway and Chair of Governors Chris Barratt as they added a plaque to the tree's new home.

Headteacher Kate Powell shared the importance of planting the tree to the school's community: "We wanted to do something in memory of the Queen following the children’s response to all of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and the sadness they felt after her passing.

"That’s why we found a tree called ‘Elizabeth’ as a long standing memorial to her that was very important to the staff and children at Bartons."
