It’s now been revealed that the bones discovered in Chichester are human.

V2 Radio was tipped off by a member of the public shortly after engineers discovered them while digging in St John’s Street yesterday afternoon.

The local authorities have now analysed the bones, and they believe these human bones date back to the 16th Century.

The Chichester market cross was built in the 16th century. The wool trade declined in the city, and and there was even a visit by Queen Elizabeth.

Statement from Sussex Police: "Police were called to the discovery of human bones during roadworks in St John’s Street, Chichester at around 1.40pm on Tuesday (3 September).

Following an assessment from the local authority, the bones are believed to date back to the 16th century and there are no suspicious circumstances."

Police are no longer at the scene of the discovery.
