Nearly 8,000 schoolchildren, have signed a "Smartphone-Free Childhood" pledge with their parents.
This initiative is part of a grassroots campaign advocating for laws that would prohibit children under 14 from owning smartphones.
Supporters argue that life is too short to be consumed by mobile devices and believe smartphones can negatively impact mental health, foster addiction, and create distractions that hinder education.
However, some parents, while acknowledging these concerns, are also worried about the safety risks for children walking to school without a smartphone.
Stats broken down by the number of children in each county who have signed the pledge:
West Sussex: 2021
East Sussex: 2164
Hampshire: 3041
