The organisers of yesterday’s Great South Run have expressed disappointment over the cancellation of the 10-mile race in Portsmouth, emphasizing that the decision was not made lightly.

After consulting with emergency services and local authorities, they concluded that the main race on Sunday could not proceed due to the severe weather forecast, which posed risks of debris and potential damage to race infrastructure.

Organisers released the following statement: "The forecasted winds and gusts compromise our event infrastructure including our medical facilities at the finish and around the course. This combined with high tide levels, potential debris, and the exposure along the seafront mean that we can't guarantee the safe delivery of the event. Safety of our participants, staff and volunteers is our number one priority. We have contacted all participants by email.
We will be in touch with all participants next week with more details about how you can roll your entry over into next year’s event, or claim a refund in line with our terms and conditions.
Next year’s Great South Run (10 miles) is scheduled to take place on Sunday 19 October 2025.
