Chichester Big Band lands at Tangmere Aviation Museum

Coming to Tangmere Military Aviation Museum on Sunday July 10th are the Chichester Big Band.

Visitors to the Museum will see the band showcasing their talents at a joint concert for both the Platinum Jubilee and the Museum’s 40th Anniversary

The group of talented musicians were brought together by Beverly Cerexhe-Dickens. Beverley had been playing in a Concert Band and was looking for something different. With no Big Band in the city, she set out to build one. Beverley said “My mother always said, if you can’t find one, make one. So that is what I did.”

The band has some 16 members and have been busy right through the Platinum commemorations. Now Steve, who is Beverley’s partner, and began on the Tenor Sax, is now its musical director and band leader.

Tangmere is now one of the UK’s leading aviation museums, it is home to an impressive display of historic aircraft with a unique collection of aviation memorabilia stretching from the First World War through to the Cold War.

Amongst the many attractions, there are numerous interactive displays and aircraft cockpits and sim-ulators for visitors to experience. Light refreshments may be purchased in the Museum’s acclaimed Cockpit Cafe. A museum with something for all members of the family to enjoy.

The Museum has been promised a selection of Glenn Miller, Sammy Nestico, Count Basie and Duke Ellington and it should help the day go with a real swing! The Big Band will be out on the lawn, weather permitting
