Daniel Evans will leave the Festival Theatre next April

Chichester Festival Theatre's Artistic Director has announced that he has been appointed a top role at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Daniel Evans is set to leave the local theatre in April next year to take on the job of Co-Artistic Director for the company whose goal is to make "Shakespeare for everyone". Evans will take on the position alongside Tamara Harvey, who has also stepped up from local theatre and made headlines as the first female to be permanently appointed the role.

Chichester Festival Theatre have celebrated Evans' role at their company, describing his determination through the pandemic as he ensured that "audiences stayed connected at the most crucial of times". His 2021 production of 'South Pacific' is touring the UK and Ireland.

Mark Foster, the chairman of the theatre, continued to describe Evans as "inspiring, creative and charismatic".

Daniel Evans, however, is feeling emotional about the change.

In a statement, he admitted: "I will leave CFT with immense gratitude and sadness.

"I have loved my time with the organisation - and owe a huge debt to the staff, artists and audiences who have come together over the years to create inspirational theatre experiences for our communities."

Chichester Festival Theatre is expected to begin looking into appointing a new Artistic Director next month.
