Dates for Worthing by-elections have been announced.

Marine and Heene ward residents are to go to the polls to vote for two new councillors

Dates for two by-elections for seats on Worthing Borough Council have been announced. Marine and Heene ward residents are to go to the polls to determine two new councillors in the previously Labour-held seats.

The Marine election will be held on September 19, after Beccy Cooper stepped down after being elected MP for Worthing West in July’s general election.

The candidates standing in Marine are: Lionel Harman (Reform UK), Mary Mernagh (Labour), Jimi Taylor (Green Party), Thomas Taylor (Conservatives) and Nick Wiltshire (Liberal Democrats).

The Heene by-election will be held on October 10, after former councillor Richard Mulholland stepped down from his seat in August. Candidates for the Heene election have not been announced yet, with the deadline for nominations being Friday, September 13.

The deadlines for postal votes are September 11 for Marine and September 25 for Marine and Heene respectively. Polls will open from 7am to 10pm and photo ID will be required.
