“His family and friends are devastated by the senseless death of such a vibrant young man, who had his whole life ahead of him.”

The "devastated" family of a Burgess Hill teenager who was killed in a motorcycle crash have shared a heartfelt tribute in his memory.

18-year-old Charlie Chandler's motorcycle collided with a car last month, beginning the boy's five-day battle against his injuries in Royal Sussex County Hospital. He was pronounced dead on the 4th of September, a loss which his family have described as an "immeasurable gap" in their lives.

Charlie's family added that he was "kind, caring, funny and intelligent".

“He had just gained three A-Levels at BHASVIC and was about to start a year out working before going to university.

“His family and friends are devastated by the senseless death of such a vibrant young man, who had his whole life ahead of him.”

Charlie was also a member of Bolney Cricket Club, who shared their memories of Charlie and reflected on his achievements.

"He had so much energy (sometimes too much!), which he threw into his cricket, clearly evident by the state of his whites!

"2015 was Charlie's year, winning the Best Softball Batter award and being on the winning team from the Family Day competition.

"Charlie was a kind, caring, funny and loveable lad, he will be missed hugely. Our deepest sympathies go to Charlie's family."
