Felpham Colts FC are partaking in the new initiative that will see parents and coaches applaud rather than shout from the sidelines

Felpham Colts FC are pioneering a 'silent support weekend' to help reduce pressure on grassroots players.

The initiative seeks to encourage parents and coaches to clap from the sidelines rather than shouting out advice in a move hoped to give players "the opportunity to find their own voice". Taking place on the 5th and 6th of November, the revolutionary change in sideline engagement is also expected to allow players to "develop their own game" as well as "have fun" whilst they play.

With the weekend going ahead in support of both the FA and Arun & Chichester Youth League, chairman Tim Robinson adds that the club "work hard to create an environment that provides our players with opportunities to learn and develop their skills in safe and effective surroundings."

Robinson continues, "It gives us great pleasure as a club to be supporting initiatives like this weekend's ‘FA Silent Weekend’ and we are positively encouraging all our parents and coaches to buy into this fantastic opportunity.

"The initiative is designed to help reduce the pressures on players at grassroots level and give them a much better opportunity to find their own voice, improve their on-pitch communications skills, develop their own game learning from their own mistakes but more importantly for the kids to have fun and enjoy their football. "

The decision to partake in the weekend comes alongside the team's values of "ensuring that the children's welfare and enjoyment are a priority in all decisions we make."
