Updated 27.08.2024 13:30: Police have arrested a man on suspicion of arson following a fire at a block of flats in Goring-by-Sea this morning (26 August).
Officers supported West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service in Eirene Road from around 2am, following reports of a significant fire.
Crews from Worthing, Littlehampton, Lancing, and the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were dispatched to the site. Two aerial ladder platforms were also deployed.
The flats' occupants were evacuated, and work is ongoing alongside our partners to ensure that those unable to return to their homes are provided with suitable temporary accommodation.
A 60-year-old man from Worthing has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, he has now been bailed pending further enquiries.
Enquiries are ongoing, alongside the fire service, into the full circumstances. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police online or via 101, quoting serial 87 of 26/08.
There are no reports of any injuries.
