The three-month programme will train locals to become "self-sufficient"

A Chichester scheme is set to help unemployed women across the district start their own business.

Named Discover Your Future, the free programme aims to teach locals who aren't studying or working the key skills needed to launch a business and become self-sufficient. The programme will cover marketing, accounting, and even confidence alongside offering peer mentoring for additional support.

Pioneering the scheme is Chichester Community Development Trust, who could see "the clear need in the community for such a project" and wanted to "champion women into self-employment."

Director of the trust Clare de Bathe added that the programme "helps to take away so many of the fears" of setting up your own business.

She continued, "The women on Discover Your Future need not feel alone or worry that they don’t have all of the skills required to launch a new business because at every step there will be somebody there to guide them.

"Everybody has had to reflect on how they would like to work in the future and many have now decided that home working and working for themselves is the way forward.

"We are so excited that with this initiative we can make the dreams some have made a reality, giving them the perfect building blocks for future success.”

Those interested are urged to get in touch as soon as possible, as the 20 spaces on the programme are allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Women are invited to email press@chichestercdt.org.uk, with spots also able to cater for any social distancing or shielding required by participants.
