Gatwick busier than ever

Gatwick Airport is undergoing one of its busiest summers to date.

In the first half of the year, 19.9 million passengers passed through its two terminals, marking a 7.7 per cent increase from the previous year.

Nick Williams, Head of Passenger Operations, London Gatwick, said: “Teams here at London Gatwick are putting in extraordinary efforts to ensure passengers will have the best start to their holidays this summer. We are working closely with our airlines and other airport partners to ensure a smooth operation for all.  

“The coming weeks will be busier than normal, we encourage passengers to read our top tips in advance of visiting the airport so they are prepared and know what to expect.” 

London Gatwick's Top tips for passengers over the summer holidays: 

  • Plan your journey to the airport in advance: Check road works and rail services before you travel 

  • Prepare for security as normal: Bring liquids in containers up to 100ml in 1-litre clear plastic bags and remove those plastic bags and electrical items from hand luggage 

  • Book special assistance at least 48 hours in advance:  More information is available on the  London Gatwick website 

  • Arrive on time: Make sure you arrive when check-in opens. Typically, this is three hours before a long-haul flight and two hours before a short-haul flight 

  • Make the most of London Gatwick’s range of restaurants and bars: Pizza Express, Black Sheep Coffee and Krispy Kreme have all landed at London Gatwick in recent months.
