Help to host VE Day street parties in Portsmouth

Residents in Portsmouth can now apply to hold a street party to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

The City Council is making it easier by waiving some of the costs, they’ll cover public liability insurance for residents’ street parties between 3rd and 5th of May.

Residents must complete an application if they want to hold a VE Day street party before the deadline of 21 March 2025. There is an online application form for street parties at Planning an event – Portsmouth City Council, alternatively you can request a paper copy at your nearest library.

Cllr Steve Pitt, Leader of Portsmouth City Council, said: “Communities in Portsmouth have a strong history of coming together to mark this sort of anniversary with street parties and we’re glad to make that a little easier for people to organise. VE Day was a hugely significant landmark for the nation and we hope to see plenty of people remembering those achievements 80 years on.”
