How you can pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

There are many ways you can pay respects to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Many across West Sussex have been paying their respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II following her death on Thursday 8th September.

The UK is currently in a period National Mourning that will continue until Tuesday 20th September, following the State Funeral, which will be held at Westminster Abbey on Monday 19th September 2022.

The Chairman of West Sussex County Council, Councillor Pete Bradbury, is is sending a letter of heartfelt condolence to His Majesty King Charles III and the Royal Family on the death of Her Majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth II on behalf of the people of West Sussex.

However, should you wish to leave your own message of condolence, you can do so on Buckingham Palace’s website.

For those who don't have online access or wish to post a message of condolence, you can send them to the Chairman’s Office, Room 102, West Sussex County Council, County Hall, Chichester PO19 1RQ.

Or if you prefer to do it online and don't have access to a computer, the 36 libraries across the county have computers that you are welcome to use to access  the online book of condolence. If you would prefer to record a written message, library staff can collect these to collate them with other written messages received by the Chairman.

If you would like to lay a floral tribute, it has been requested that you consider the environment and dispose of any wrapping beforehand.

Elsewhere, there will be a National Moment of Reflection that takes place at 8pm on Sunday 18 September 2022, which is the night before the State Funeral, and be marked by a one-minute silence.

People are being encouraged to take part, whether this is privately at home or with friends and family or at your doorsteps or in the street with neighbours.

There is also likely to be community events and vigils marking the occasion - Take a look at the goverment website for larger events that could be close to you.

Her Majesty's funeral will be televised between 11am and 6pm on Monday 16th September, if however, you are planning on travelling, be sure to check beforehand, there is due to be disruption and delays, especially if you're heading to London.
