Huge fire rips through West Sussex former care home

People in the area were warned to keep windows closed due to 'heavy smoke'.

A huge fire at a former care home building near Haywards Heath prompted a large emergency service response on Saturday evening (5th November). Ten fire engines were are at the scene on Bolnore Farm Lane.

Crews have continued overnight to fight the fire.

Local roads in the area had to be closed to protect drivers and passers by. The B2272 remains closed both ways in Haywards Heath this morning, from Butlers Green to the Muster Green roundabouts.
 

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said it was called at just after 7pm on Saturday to reports of a fire. People in the area were advised to keep windows closed due to 'heavy smoke' from the incident.

The fire service said in an update on Twitter: "We are currently tackling a fire in Bolnore Farm Lane near Haywards Heath. Local residents are advised to keep their windows closed due to heavy smoke - please share. 10 engines are currently in attendance. We were called at 7.08pm to the fire in a former care home building."

It is not thought there was anyone inside the building which was previously used as a residential care home.

West Sussex Fire and Resuce are urging people to stay away from the area.
