RNLI crew battled through thunder and lightning to save the vessel

Littlehampton RNLI have revealed their mission to rescue a broken down boat moments before a thunderstorm hit.

The crew were on called out on Monday following reports of a 28-foot vessel stranded near Littlehampton Harbour. The rescue mission took place through the thunder and lightning that built up to an evening storm, with the boat being escorted to the harbour minutes before torrential rain hit.

It took an hour and forty minutes to get the boat to safety - something that the RNLI's Lifeboat Operations Manager, Nick White, says he's "pleased" about:

"Our volunteer crew are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, ready to help those in trouble in local waters – whatever the weather.

"Being stuck on a broken down boat in a thunderstorm would not have been a pleasant experience, so we are pleased that we were able to tow the vessel to the safety of Littlehampton Harbour, just in time."
