Local church's "Tree of Hope" branches out to help the disadvantaged people at its roots

Donnington's St George's Church have tied tags to their car park to help provide presents to local people struggling this Christmas

A local church's 'Tree of Hope' is branching out to help the disadvantaged people at its roots - the community that surrounds them.

St George's Church in Donnington has launched their annual Christmas Gift Appeal by attaching tags to their car park's fence, each with a description of a different type of person. The campaign encourages each person who takes a label to buy a present for the person on their tag in a move hoped to "help Santa" with gifts for those in need.

Working with the Chichester Harbour Rotary Club, tag-takers are invited back with their gifts on the 27th of November for an evening event where they can watch the Tree of Hope be lit, listen to carols and Christmas readings as well as munch on mince pies. Last year, the campaign provided presents for over 385 families.

"The people of Donnington are hoping they will be able to help exceed that even more this year," organisers share.

Alongside representatives from the Rotary Club, Santa is also hoped to be in attendance at the event, where he will "receive the gifts and thank everyone personally for their kindness."
