North Street to reopen in both directions TOMORROW in shock timetable shake up

The work to shore up fire damaged buildings was supposed to take 7 weeks

West Sussex County Council have confirmed that they will reopen a busy road in Midhurst late Friday evening after work was completed 10 days early.

Works expected to take 7 weeks began on North Street, Midhurst on the 15th May, months after a fire at the Angel Inn ripped through buildings on the street back in March.

However, contractors managed to complete the works 10 days early, with the South Downs National Park sharing that they will hand over to West Sussex County Council as the Highways Authority, allowing them to reopen the road in both directions.

The work included shoring up the listed buildings affected, taking down the three large chimneys which were at risk of collapse, and vehicle access has been enabled for the residents of Angel Yard.

The road will open in both directions on the evening of the 23rd of June.
