The MP for Portsmouth South has commended the Prime Minister for boosting defence spending, highlighting the potential benefits for the city.
Stephen Morgan stated that the investment not only strengthens national security but also presents opportunities for job creation, skills development, and innovation.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to speak with Donald Trump later today in the US.
Commenting Stephen Morgan said:
“The Prime Minister has announced the biggest sustained increase in defence spending since the Cold War. It will fund the capabilities, technology and industrial capacity to keep our country and our allies safe.
“This is also an opportunity for growth. It means jobs, skills and innovation here in Portsmouth and right across the UK.
“We face a generational challenge of a world that has been reshaped by global instability and the choices the government has made today allow our country to step up to that challenge.
“We are in a new era of defence. We must revive our industrial base. We must deepen our alliances. We must deliver security for our country.
“That is what our city and our country needs now - to be secure at home and strong abroad. That is what the Labour government will deliver.”
