Residents in Arun, Worthing, and Adur to have say on location of EV chargepoints

There are plans for new electric vehicle (EV) charge points across 15 streets in the area.

A four-week public consultation, running from the 4th September to 2^nd of October, gives people the chance to have their say on the latest push toward greener transportation.

This initiative is part of West Sussex County Council’s vision for a sustainable and future-proofed community, aiming to make electric vehicle use more accessible while paving the way for a cleaner, greener tomorrow.

The latest rollout of proposed EV chargepoints is part of West Sussex County Council’s ambitious plans to help create a sustainable and resilient future. 

The county council is asking for residents’ views on the following roads:

Adur and Worthing:

Salisbury Road, BN11 1RD

Browning Road, BN11 4NR

The Strand, BN12 6NS

Marine Parade, BN11 3FN

Berkeley Square, BN11 5AF

South Farm Road, BN14 7AX

Milton Street, BN11 3NE

Drake Avenue, BN12 6ER

Becket Road, BN14 7ET

Brunswick Road, BN11 3NG

The Causeway, BN12 6FA

Arun:

Elm Place, BN16 3BL

South Terrace, BN17 5NZ

Anson Road, PO21 3LN

Upper Bognor Road, PO22 7AN.

Locations have been chosen based on either public requests or because they are recognised as an area with limited off-road parking and insufficient publicly available chargepoints.

Cllr Joy Dennis, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “We want to lead the way on more sustainable transport options, a key priority in Our Council Plan to help protect the environment.

“One way we can do this is by ensuring our residents have access to as many chargepoints as possible, particularly with the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles set for 2035.

“We’ve already delivered hundreds of chargepoints and expanding the network is a crucial step in reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and reducing harmful carbon emissions, particularly where residents have limited access to off-road parking.

“Our rollout will give residents and communities the confidence and infrastructure to help them switch to an electric vehicle for a cleaner and greener future for generations to come.

“We are keen to hear from as many people as possible and I would urge people living in these areas to take this opportunity to participate in the consultation.”

Current on-street parking arrangements will remain unchanged, and the electric vehicle bays will be accessible to all unless there is an existing restriction in place such as Residents Permit Parking. Should enforcement of the bays be considered in the future, the county council will seek further public consultation.

This latest phase of proposals forms part of the broader West Sussex Chargepoint Network, a partnership between West Sussex County Council, its district and borough partners and Connected Kerb and aligns closely with the county council’s Council Plan and Climate Change Strategy commitments.

To date, 253 dual-socket electric vehicle chargepoints have been installed on the roadside and in district and borough car parks across West Sussex, with hundreds more planned for the coming years.
