Councillors will be in the square on Saturday 1st of October to ask locals for their thoughts

Southwick Square's revamp has been revealed, with the council turning to locals to ask for their thoughts on the change.

Local councillors aim to make the space "more accessible and more environmentally friendly" alongside updating it to become "an inviting space for residents and visitors again". Hopes include having the area become a venue for performances, markets and for people to sit and eat.

The proposal takes into account having space for the community Christmas Tree, alongside "attractive gardens" and the addition of "drought resistant species" which aim to both improve air quality as well as increase biodiversity.

The Deputy Leader of the Council, Angus Dunn, confessed: "Southwick has a very popular town centre but Southwick Square could do with extra space for events like markets.

Dunn continued, "We want to give the area the facelift it deserves so that even more people want to come here to shop or stop for a coffee."

New seating and lighting in the area are also part of plans.

The project has been designed locally, and the transformation is also hoped to be carried out by contractors living in the area. Those who would like to share their thoughts on the update will be able to speak to councillors in the square on Saturday, with other comments able to be sent to economyteam@adur-worthing-gov.uk
