One of the world’s top pianists will perform at Chichester Cathedral on Valentine's night. Richard Uttley’s music will include Beethoven Sonatas, Gershwin’s Embraceable You, and many others—all performed in the flickering glow of hundreds of candles on stage at the Cathedral.
Richard Uttley, lauded for his “musical intelligence and pristine facility” (International Record Review) and “tumultuous performance” (Daily Telegraph), has established himself as one of the UK’s foremost pianists. His accolades include winning first prize at the British Contemporary Piano Competition and the Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) International Auditions. A passionate advocate of contemporary music, Uttley has premiered works by leading composers and commissioned new music that continues to shape the landscape of piano repertoire.
Uttley’s career has taken him to prestigious venues and festivals worldwide, including Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Auditorium du Louvre (Paris), Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg), and the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam). His performances are regularly broadcast on BBC Radio 3, BBC Four, Classic FM, and Sky Arts. In addition to an impressive solo career, he is also a dedicated chamber musician, collaborating with renowned artists and ensembles across the globe.
Chris Guest, Artistic Director of Candlelight Concerts said: “This special Valentine’s concert is the ideal way to celebrate the season of love. Whether you’re a dedicated classical music aficionado or simply looking for a one-of-a-kind romantic experience, this spellbinding performance, showcasing the talents of one of today’s very best pianists, will whisk you away on a musical journey.
“We love coming to Chichester, and our shows in the Cathedral always create a magical experience, with its warm ambience and unique charm. However, with the added romance of Valentine’s Day, our 14 February performance promises to be particularly special—a real treat for anyone seeking something extraordinary for the occasion.”
